Vedaant Month
In 2024, Vedaant Month is being observed from 2 October to 1 November (Mahalaya Amavasya to Deepawali) to revive and restore the essence of Sanaatan Dharm, emphasizing that Sanaatan Dharm is deeply rooted in Vedic principles, with the heart of the Vedas lying in Vedaant. Upanishads, Bhagvat Geeta and Brahmasutras are studied to aid self observation, self being mental tendencies - what we crave for, what we are attached too, what we hate or fear, our feelings, our thought process what we are blind to, our deepest desires, the default intention behind every action - the entire arena of mind, my mind, as it drives my mental behaviour.
The Essence of Sanaatan Dharm
Sanaatan Dharm is inherently Vedic, and its foundation lies in Vedaant. To establish any aspect of Dharm as valid and acceptable, the authority of the Shruti (the Vedas) is paramount, and this Shruti authority essentially becomes Vedanta authority in practice.
Significance of Sacred Texts
Sacred texts are important in leading a religious life. Religion cannot thrive without scriptures, as devoid of sacred texts, it may devolve into individual interpretations and personal whims, which is not the essence of Dharma. The Abrahamic religions have their central scriptures, and similarly, various Indian religions like Buddhism, Jainism, and Sikhism possess their own central texts.
Challenges Faced by Sanaatan Dharm
Sanaatan Dharm, while having millions of followers, is often fragmented and lacks a unified vision. This fragmentation is exploited by critics who belittle and disrespect Sanaatan Dharm. Dharm should not just signify tradition, uphold faith, and provide fun festivals, but shall help live a life based on understanding and values.
Vedaant and Its Importance
Vedaant is the highest authority in Sanaatan Dharm. Those who neither study nor comprehend Vedaant should question the Dharm they claim to follow. Vedaant is pinnacle of knowledge, which transcends the limitations of individual authors.Restoration of Dharmik life is possible only by living by the highest scripture, which is Vedaant. Decline and disrespect of Dharm cannot be tolerated, and it is the responsibility of those who hold the highest place in Sanaatan Dharm to reinstate it. The revival of Vedaant is crucial not only for Dharm but for humanity as a whole.
Vedaant Month is to encourage individuals to engage with the Upanishads and deeply understand their meaning. The Ghar Ghar Upanishad campaign is introduced to reach 20 crore households with Upanishadic teachings.
